Keeping Christmas {Deck the Halls and Fa la la la la} key wristlets

Welcome friends...it's been a while! I'm back today sharing a little project that I worked on for my Keeping Christmas Series. I haven't posted one here for a while, so it was fun to create something that I could share here as well!

I ended up making 10 key wristlets in total. The fat quarter bundle that I picked up had 5 different designs, so I made 2 of each design.

These are the supplies that I used. I found the fat quarter bundle at Wal-Mart. It has a metallic detailing that I thought would be fun for a Christmas project, without being Christmas-y. I purchased the hardware on Amazon and you can find it HERE

To begin, I cut 4 inch strips the with of the fabric. Once that was done, I pressed it, folded it in half, and then folded each of the sides in to meet the middle. I pressed that down and then folded them in half again.

You can see them all pressed here. It didn't take long at all. Once that was done, I stitched up each side with an 1/8 inch seam allowance.  I was finding that my needle kept getting stuck and pulling up the bobbin thread in an unsightly manner. I discovered that it was due to the metallic portions of the fabric. I realized that I need to sew slower along those areas. After a while, my needle seemed to be just fine. I cut each piece to 12 1/2 inches long and then attached the hardware.

I found that if I clamped the hardware down just small enough for the fabric to fit through BEFORE I threaded it in, I had much better results. It was easier for me to use my other hand to clamp and hold at the same time. These will be for my daughter to give to her friends this Christmas!
